About Home-stays
Homestays are run by Ethnic minorities who choose to welcome travellers and have prepared their houses to accommodate guests. These are traditional houses where the family stays in separate rooms with guests, although you will often eat dinner together with the family. There are hot showers, towels, western-style toilets with paper, electricity, mosquito nets and tasty local traditional food. The homestays are clean and safe and here you will experience local ethnic culture.
Local Activities: A Taste of Tradition
On the first day of your trek, instead of dining in a local restaurant, we’ll take you to enjoy lunch in a local house, where you’ll savor traditional dishes prepared by the Hmong ethnic minority. In these villages, purchasing beer or commercial wine is uncommon, so the locals either craft their own rice wine or buy it from a local store that specializes in this traditional beverage. This rice wine, similar to sake, packs a punch with an alcohol content of around 35%.
After your meal, we’ll introduce you to a unique local game that involves drinking rice wine using a chicken beak. To ensure a pleasant experience, we limit the amount of rice wine to 1-2 small glasses per person. If you prefer not to drink, that’s perfectly fine—participation is entirely optional.
Following the game, we’ll continue our trek to your homestay, where you can unwind and enjoy the rest of your day. On your final day, you’ll have lunch in a local restaurant to round off your journey.
Local Special Herb Plant
During our treks, our local guide will help you identify special herb plants that are traditionally used in local villages for medicinal purposes. These herbs are known for their ability to heal itchy feet and eliminate bacteria. Once you reach a local house, the guide will demonstrate how to boil these herbs in a pot. After boiling, you’ll have the opportunity to mix the herbs with salt and enjoy a relaxing foot bath.
See below for your tour options.

We did a 3-day, 2-night tour in February. Although the weather wasn’t ideal (one rainy day and the other two mostly cloudy with limited visibility), we had a lot of fun with our tour guide, So.
Each day, we had the option to choose between an easy walk, a moderate hike, or a more challenging hike (the latter involved navigating hills and crossing muddy rice paddies). The tour was very personalized, and the only time we encountered other tourists was when we finished our trek and were waiting for transportation back to our hotel in Sapa.
The overnight stays at local houses were delightful, and having dinner with the families added a special touch to the experience.
I would strongly recommend the 3-day/2-night trip, but make sure to bring rubber boots (or purchase them before your trek) if it’s not during the dry season.

My partner and I had a wonderful experience trekking Sapa! Mai and her team help us navigate the villages and take us to a great local restaurant in Lai Chau. Our guide Sue has great knowledge of the area and very friendly! She has great English 😊

Amazing experience from A to Z!
The website is very clear and easy to navigate for you to find the best trekking options (there are several).
The trekking by itself was amazing, the views, the path, the lunch, the explanations etc. I learnt a lot this day and the views are truly breathtaking.
Thank you very much and I 100% recommend it!

Mai was the most patient, kind and informative tour guide we have had in our whole time in Vietnam. She gave us as much time as we needed for photos/questions and went at a pace that we all found enjoyable. Love!

The tour was an absolute delight, and our guide, Sang, was full of energy, leading us through the stunning rice fields. The homestay is currently being renovated to make it even better, but the room and bathroom we stayed in had everything we needed for a comfortable night.
The meals—lunch, dinner, and breakfast—were all delicious. We even got to participate in a small cooking class before dinner, where we prepared fried spring rolls ourselves.
And don’t worry about the “happy tea” or “happy water”—they’re all part of the fun!
All in all, I would highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting to connect with the local village and its people.

Trekking through the rice paddies and hills around Sapa with So from Sapa Weather Trekking Tours was, without a doubt, the best experience of our month-long trip to Vietnam. Our group included three adults, a 5-year-old, and two 12-year-olds. Despite the heavy rain on the morning of our departure, So kindly took us to rent rubber boots, which made the trek much more manageable in the wet weather.
We are typically skeptical of tours, knowing they depend heavily on the quality of the guide. But So was truly exceptional. She and her family shared deep local wisdom and knowledge, guiding us with warmth and allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience. She made us feel like part of her family and offered guidance and choices in the most supportive way.
We had no idea what to expect from the homestay, but we felt right at home in the H’mong village nestled in the rainy mountains. The food was delicious, the family was welcoming, the room was comfortable, and the hot shower was a blessing after a day of trekking. It was an unforgettable way to spend the night on the trail.
We’re always concerned about tourism’s potential negative impact on beautiful environments and rural communities like those in Sapa. However, it felt reassuring to know that Sapa Weather Trekking Tours is a locally-owned, woman social enterprise. While we remain mindful of our impact as tourists, we feel confident that supporting organizations like this one is the right way to travel responsibly.

Amazing experience! This trek was definitely the highlight of our trip to Vietnam. Yang, our guide, took excellent care of us. On the first day, we explored local villages and were mesmerized by the stunning rice fields and mountain views.
During the trek, Yang showed us how to gather special local herbs for foot massages. Once we arrived at the homestay, she demonstrated how to boil the herbs in a pot for use.
We stayed at a beautiful homestay, where the owner was very welcoming. The food was excellent, and the bedroom was comfy and clean (we even had Wi-Fi!). On the second day, we ventured deeper into the mountains, walking through a bamboo forest and passing by a waterfall. We were lucky to have a foggy day, which gave us the opportunity to take some amazing, unique photos. The second homestay was more basic, as it was further into Sapa, but the family was just as kind, the food was great, and the beds, though a bit hard, were still comfortable enough after a 16 km trek—when you’re that tired, you sleep well regardless!
The third day was really hot, but we enjoyed walking through the rice fields, where we crossed paths with buffalo and local farmers. We chose to return to the same homestay as the previous night. On the last day, we decided to skip the 10 km hike due to the risk of rain, as we didn’t have waterproof gear and were carrying a camera and laptop.

We had a fantastic time on our 3-day, 2-night trek. Our group of 10 friends was guided by Khu, who was incredibly friendly and informative. Khu shared so much about the local culture, and we had the chance to taste authentic local food with her and her family.
The homestays were very comfortable, and the family dinners were always a highlight of the day. Although we had some misty weather on a few days, it didn’t take away from the experience—we still had an amazing time.
We 100% recommend this tour!

We did the 3-day trek with Sapa Weather Trekking Tours, and it was an absolute pleasure. Being integrated into the experience with our guide, Chi, her family, and the local tribal people was truly special. We tried on traditional clothing, learned about their cultural practices, and were welcomed with so much joy and happiness.
One highlight was having lunch in a local house, where we played a regional game that involved drinking local rice wine made in the village. During our hike, Chi showed us how to gather local herbs, which were later used for relaxing foot massages.
The homestays were incredibly neat, with excellent showers, and the food was both delicious and abundant—we certainly never went hungry!
We would highly recommend this trip to anyone. If you choose the more challenging walk, be prepared for some serious ascents and descents, but it’s totally worth it for the experience.

We just completed a 3-day, 2-night trek through the beautiful Sapa Valley, bamboo forests, and mountains, listening to stories about the H’mong people from my amazing guide, Mai. From start to finish, it was simply a fantastic experience. Sapa Weather Trekking Tours includes one local lunch, which I enjoyed at a local house. After lunch, my guide, Mai, introduced me to a local rice wine drinking game played in the village, and it quickly became one of my favorite experiences.
After the game, we continued trekking, and Mai showed me how to pick local natural herb plants, which were perfect for a foot massage after a long hike.
If you’re considering booking a trek in Sapa, I highly recommend Sapa Weather Trekking Tours—go for it; you won’t regret it. (Tip: Bring shoes with good grip if you plan to take on the more challenging routes, especially if it has rained, as they can be quite demanding!)

Our guide, Do, is incredibly intelligent. She shared a wealth of knowledge with us and assisted with all our requests and questions. She customized the trekking tour based on our needs, continuously asking for our preferences and taking us to the most beautiful locations. It also feels wonderful to support the local women of Sapa and the neighboring villages.

We loved our experience with Sapa Weather Trekking Tours! Our guide was Chi, and she is fantastic, the best! She was so genuine and happy to share anything from the area to her culture and traditions. We learnt so much about the local traditional herb plants. It was a pleasure to trek with her for 3 days. We are forever grateful, and she will be in our memories for a lifetime. Thank you so much, Chi! We highly recommend trekking with the Sapa Weather Trekking Tours. Our experience has been amazing!

An excellent trip led by our tour guide, Chu. The homestays were beautiful and clean, the food was homely, and the routes and trails provided easy walking with stunning views. Chu shared fascinating stories about local life, plants, crops, and culture. During our trek, she showed us some local herb plants, and when we arrived at the homestay, we enjoyed a foot massage using the herbs she had introduced to us. Chu was eager to chat with us, and we truly enjoyed her company.
We highly recommend a trip with Sapa Weather Trekking Tours, especially for their ‘off the beaten track’ options. Our trails were quiet and serene, with only the occasional water buffalo or duck, making it a fantastic and memorable experience!

Thank you for the wonderful feedback on your 3-day, 2-night trekking tour with Yang! It sounds like you had an amazing experience exploring the beautiful scenery, engaging with the friendly locals, and enjoying the delicious food and homestays. I’m glad to hear that Yang’s professionalism, effort, and excellent English skills made your trip both informative and memorable

My husband and I loved our trekking tour! Our guide, Zing, was fantastic and provided insightful commentary throughout the journey. She was extremely helpful to my husband, who wasn’t wearing hiking boots and found the trail quite slippery.
We were also joined by an older Hmong lady who kindly assisted me during the walk. She even cut some bamboo to make a walking pole for my husband, which was a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture.
The scenery was breathtaking, and the exposure to the villages and local communities was truly special. I loved that local people were our guides, which made the experience feel even more authentic. Everything about this tour was wonderful, and I would thoroughly recommend it!

My partner and I decided to do a 3 day trek and we got Su as our guide. Such a wonderful person! Very talkative but in a very good way. She explained a lot about the local culture and way of life during the hike and took us mostly to non-turistic spots. She even brought us to her home and introduced us to her family, while also getting us a bit drunk on “happy water”.
We also decided to take the cooking class with Mai, and she was also super nice and taught us to make Pho, spring rolls and Vietnanamese bread the proper local way in an actual Vietnamese kitchen. Then we played a local drinking game, which was also very fun. We even got an herbal bath after the hike!
To summarize, this was one of our best experiences in Vietnam and if you like trekking away from the crowds and getting to know the locals, Sapa Weather is the way to do it!
