The Hmong sapa vietnam had emigration from China to Vietnam since the 19th century. When they first arrived in Vietnam they struggled to establish their community on the high mountains. By the time the hmong sapa vietnam arrived in Vietnam all the land did not belong to anyone so they went to the forest and found their properties by the old generation.

You can imagine that all the lands now in Sapa became ricefields used to be mountains and foresty, then the Hmong Sapa Vietnam ethnic minority group used grape hoe, pick mattock, weeding hoe, axe, and handsaw to build the rice fields.

They used their handsaw and axe to cut down all the trees then used the weeding hoe and pick mattock to dig dirt out and build the amazing rice field in Sapa. When the Hmong Sapa Vietnam finished building their rice fields they needed to collect the water irrigation from the mountains to go through the rice fields to make the soil softer and better for the rice, if the soil was very hard then it will not good for the rice. The Hmong ethnic minority group in Sapa grow their rice fields only once a year and the rice that they grow it’s only for their family use it. The Hmong Sapa Vietnam do not sell their rice to other companies.

These are some photos of the rice fields before there were no rice fields and after the Hmong Sapa Vietnam built their rice fields.

Hmong Sapa Vietnam if you are married when you are 20 to 30 years old, they think you are too old to get Mary and they are afraid that their children can not get husbands or wives. When the girl gets married she will move from her family to her husband’s family. For the Hmong, we have 2 options to get married.

Option 1 if the boy feels in love with that girl or dating then he will kidnap her to Mary.

Option 2 The boy’s family will arrange a marriage for him.

All the options marry in 3 days if the girl doesn’t want to marry him, she can return to her family. As you know in Hmong sapa vietnam culture it’s very important to have boys in the family, because if the parents only have girls in the future the girls will be married and no one will look after their parents. If a family do not have boys-only girls then they keep giving birth until they have boys, but if the parants do not have boys-only girls then they will adopt a boy.
